(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Wednesday, Speaker Mike Johnson stated that there would come a time when the National Guard was going to be required to handle the pro-Palestine protests at the U.S. universities, including Columbia University, if the protesters did not disperse.

Johnson’s comment had come during a combative press conference where the Speaker had talked about the pro-Palestine protesters currently at Columbia University, which is where the conference was held. The protesters had at the time set up an encampment on campus calling for them to denounce and disperse the alleged antisemitism that has grown across U.S. campuses.

Johnson pointed out that if this was not quickly contained, and if the intimidation and threats were not stopped then there would come a time when it could be appropriate for the National Guard to step in. He added that these intimidation tactics and threats needed to quickly be stopped and argued that U.S. campuses needed to be in order. He added that this was something they could not allow to happen around the country. As he pointed out, the U.S. was better than this.

Johnson had stated that following his visit to the campus he would personally be calling for Biden to take action and would inform him about everything he had seen. He had also argued that it would be appropriate to use executive authority in this case.

On Monday, GOP Sens. Tom Cotton and Josh Hawley had also pushed for Biden to deploy the National-Palestine protests.
