(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) slammed President Biden for having given the Russian president a “green light” through the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

On Wednesday McConnell had joined Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom” following the Senate passing foreign aid to be sent to Ukraine in its war against Russia. He proceeded to state that one of Biden’s biggest mistakes made by Biden was the withdrawal from Afghanistan because of how it appeared on the international playing field.

As he pointed out he does not believe that withdrawing the troops had been the correct choice as they had kept terrorism under control in the area. However, he noted that with the withdrawal Biden had committed a large mistake because of how it looked to other countries. He added that withdrawal had given Putin the green light as he had already been considering bringing his troops against the border.

McConnell has had the same views on the withdrawal since 2021, which is close to three years ago at the time of the withdrawal. He further argued that Biden’s plan to have the American troops removed from the country had been one of the U.S. worst foreign policy decisions in history.

Following the withdrawal, Russia started its invasion of Ukraine. Since then Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been pleading with the U.S. for more foreign aid.

The Senate GOP has been divided about the policy after the previous bill which had not included provisions for the border had not passed through the House. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) had stated at the time that conservative members had been calling for more action.
