(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Thursday, evening Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., shared a post on social media in which he slammed Republicans who are pushing for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to be impeached.

Jeffries argued that “extreme MAGA Republicans” were pushing for the Senate to move ahead with a full impeachment trial. In his post on X, formerly known as Twitter, he argued that what the GOP wanted was to continue with their “stunt targeting” Mayorkas. He continued by saying that his response to this was that they needed to “Get lost.”

Next month the Senate was going to be receiving the impeachment articles that have passed through the House.

On Thursday House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., had notified Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., of the House GOP sending the articles through on April 10. In his letter, he also pushed for the impeachment trial to be held “expeditiously.”

In February almost all House GOP members, apart from three, had voted in favor of Mayorkas being impeached over his mishandling of the U.S. border. This is the first impeachment of a cabinet secretary since 1876.

Schumer’s office had previously told Fox News Digital that once the impeachment articles were sent to the Senate they would initiate the impeachment trial. As it noted the day after the articles are received they will have senators sworn in as jurors and will have Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray preside over the case. However, it is not likely that the trial is going to result in a conviction.
