(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Tuesday, President Biden announced his 2024 reelection campaign. Following the announcement most high-profile progressives in Congress have stated that they support Biden’s reelection bid, despite not agreeing with everything in his policy agenda.

Following his announcement of his 2024 presidential campaign, Biden has already received an impressive number of endorsements from the left, including from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), who is head of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and Squad members Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Greg Casar (D-Texas).

In the progressive wing, while everyone is preparing to support the president, they are not showing full-throated support. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), one of the most prominent liberal representatives stated that she “unequivocally” supports the party’s nominees, but that does not mean that she is not acknowledging that there are differences between her and Biden.

On Thursday, Jayapal stated regarding Biden’s announcement that it did not “feel like a big launch” adding that hopefully in the future they would have “much bigger opportunities to launch kind of a vision” of what they plan to do in the future.

Democrats have widely emphasized that they will take any action necessary to ensure that they beat former President Donald Trump, who is currently the front-runner in the 2024 GOP primary. However, worries about division within the Democratic party still exist.
One prominent progressive activist stated that Biden’s “disregard  — and even, at times, evident contempt” for part of his party’s base could result in the “kind of dampened Democratic voter enthusiasm that allowed Trump to win in November 2016.”
