(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Wednesday, Hunter Biden slammed the GOP over the impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden, and was defiant during his closed-door deposition. He claimed that the investigation into the family business was based on “lies.”
In his opening statement, which was obtained by The Associated Press, Hunter Biden claimed that for over a year the House GOP’s committees have been on a partisan pursuit of his family. He proceeded to claim that Republicans were dealing in “distortion, and sensationalism” and pointed out that his father was not involved in his business.
The deposition lasted for close to seven-hour with one of Hunter Biden’s attorney’s having told reporters that during the testimony there was not any evidence produced that would help support the claims that Joe Biden had been involved in his son’s business activities. He proceeded to claim that it appeared that the GOP members had spent the majority of the deposition asking Hunter Biden about his addiction and not any questions that were related with the impeachment inquiry.
Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre similarly pointed out that the probe was a “stunt” which had lasted for months.
However Republican lawmakers were undeterred by the comments made by Hunter Biden. Rep. James Comer, who is the chairman of one of the committee’s overseeing the inquiry, claimed on Wednesday that the deposition had been “great” and that it had brought together some of the evidence they had previously gathered. However, he added that there were some contradictory statements that they would need to further look into.
