(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday while speaking to the State’s Republican County chairs defended his decision to install floating buoys along the Rio Grande as a means of blocking and deterring illegal immigration.

While talking in Georgetown, Texas, Abbott stated that his administration has had to deal with the surge in illegal immigrants who are crossing into the country through the U.S.-Mexico border. He added that he was going to take any steps necessary to help defend Texas from the Mexican drug cartels and all those who are trying to enter the U.S. illegally. He further noted that he was going to fight to protect the country’s sovereignty.

The decision to install the floating border is part of Abbott’s Operation Lone Star. He added that this particular operation is called “hold the line” and it focused on ensuring that no one is able to illegally cross into Texas.

The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Abbott and the state of Texas after he refused to remove the floating barriers. The barriers are in violation of federal law.

At the same time, Texas continues its busing operations and is transporting thousands of migrants to sanctuary cities including Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York City, and more recently Los Angeles. Abbott has added that the busing operation would continue until the federal government took action to amend and secure the U.S. border and stop the migration crisis.

He added that he would be seeing President Biden in court following the lawsuit.
