(PartiallyPolitics.com) – North Carolina Republican Party chairman Michael Whatley has formally announced that he would be bidding for the position currently held by Ronna McDaniel as the Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman. Previously he had received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump for the position.

This development was expected following the announcement by McDaniel that she would be stepping down from her current position as the RNC leader next month. On Monday Whatley announced that he would be bidding for the position in an email that had been sent to RNC members.

In the letter, he noted that he believes that his experience in securing election integrity and driving turnout, and his time as the RNC General Counsel have helped prepare him for this role. He added that he was honored to have received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump for this position and argued that he was hopeful that he would be able to win their vote to undertake the work that would be required in order for the GOP to win in the upcoming election.

Whatley pointed out in his bid that he continued to be committed to increasing voter turnout as well as to enhance the RNC’s efforts to ensure the integrity of future elections. He further referred to the importance of an aggressive legal strategy that would help counter voter fraud. This move would put him in alignment with the RNC’s investment in the Election Integrity Department.

He added that the focus needed to be on them registering more voters ahead of the upcoming election.
