(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Peter Navarro, an aide of Former President Donald Trump has predicted that the case against him was likely to end up in the Supreme Court after he was sentenced to four months in prison. This sentencing related to him being held in contempt of Congress.

Navarro, who was former President Trump’s White House trade adviser, has filed at the Supreme Court an emergency request in an attempt to pause the ruling against him so that he does not have to report to federal prison next week.

Navarro’s legal team has argued that Navarro should be released as he waits for his case appeals. In the filing, they note that this is the first time in United States history that a senior presidential advisor has ended up convicted of contempt of Congress for having asserted executive privilege in covering a congressional subpoena. They further pointed out that Navarro in his appeal has pointed to several issues that should either result in a new trial or to his conviction being reversed.

In the filing, it was also pointed out that Navarro should not be considered a “flight risk” and that he should have been given the right to continue being free during the appeal process. It is added that Navarro is also not a public safety danger and as such should be allowed to be released.

Navarro is currently supposed to report to a federal prison on Tuesday. The Supreme Court has called for the Biden administration to file its request by Monday at 2 p.m.
