(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Monday, President Biden’s reelection campaign slammed the House GOP for listening to the calls of former President Donald Trump to allow a government shutdown to happen if they do not get all of their requests granted. They further argued that they were allowing Trump to be the lead political strategist on this issue.

Kevin Munoz, the spokesperson for the Biden-Harris campaign, stated that the House GOP was happy to allow Trump to act as the chief political strategist despite the cost this could have to American families. He further called Trump’s behavior shameful and argued that he was unsurprised by it, as Trump has previously shown his disregard for the American people.

On Monday, Trump had insisted that if the government shuts down then Biden is going to be the one blamed, and pushed for the Republicans to not back down unless they got “everything” they were demanding. He added that should they not get “everything” then lawmakers should allow the government to shutdown.

The Biden administration has frequently spoken up against a shutdown and has emphasized that should the House Republicans not find a solution to spending, then it will be the hard-line Republican holdouts that will be blamed for the government going without funding.

Munoz in his statement further pointed out that Trump, who is leading the 2024 Republican primary race is under the impression that a shutdown would be politically beneficial to him. This is why he is pushing for the MAGA House GOP to cut down on funding for education, housing, food safety, and law enforcement. The government shutdown would also have an effect on cancer research while also making troops and federal law enforcement work without receiving pay.
