The event, which took place on December 15, saw employees partaking in a festive lunch organized by the company. However, it led to an outbreak of a food-borne illness among the attendees. The specific food item responsible for the illness was not disclosed by the Airbus Atlantic representative. Importantly, the spokesperson noted that the illnesses were not severe and all affected employees were able to resume work the following week.
This number of affected individuals, however, seems to be at odds with the figures reported by French health authorities. According to a report by BBC News, more than 700 employees were believed to have experienced symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea, suggesting a much larger scale of impact than initially indicated by the company.
Founded in 2022, Airbus Atlantic operates as a fully owned subsidiary of Airbus and has a substantial workforce of 13,000 people. Its operations span across five countries and three continents, and it has significant facilities, including one in Santo Tirso, Portugal.
In response to the incident, the Airbus Atlantic spokesperson informed The Hill that the investigation into the cause of the illness is being led by French health authorities. They emphasized that this appears to be a singular occurrence and reassured that all employees affected by the incident are on the mend.
Underlining Airbus Atlantic’s commitment to its workforce, the spokesperson stated that the health and safety of their employees are of utmost importance. The company is actively cooperating with the ARS health agency to identify the cause of the outbreak. Additionally, efforts are being made to ensure that such an incident does not recur, focusing on enhancing safety measures and protocols related to company-organized events.
