(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Nikki Haley, a Republican presidential candidate, recently stated that she would consider pardoning former President Donald Trump if she were elected president, believing it would serve the nation’s best interests. Speaking at a campaign event, as reported by NBC News, Haley emphasized her stance, suggesting that pardoning Trump would help the country move forward and reduce division.

Haley reasoned that it wouldn’t be beneficial for the country to see an 80-year-old former president imprisoned, as it could further polarize the nation. She believes that pardoning him would enable the country to progress and shift focus away from him.

Previously, Haley had indicated a willingness to pardon Trump if he were found guilty of any crime and if she were to win the presidency. Her stance comes amid a surge in her polling numbers, although she still trails significantly behind Trump in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. According to a national polling average by Decision Desk HQ/The Hill, Trump leads with 63.1 percent support among GOP primary voters, while Haley has 10.8 percent, closely followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 10.6 percent.

Trump is currently involved in four separate criminal cases, facing a total of 91 criminal counts. These cases include two federal indictments brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith, one related to attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results and another concerning the alleged retention of national defense information. Additionally, Trump faces charges in New York over hush-money payments to an adult film star and a Georgia criminal RICO case connected to his efforts to contest the 2020 election outcome.
