(PartiallyPolitics.com) – The new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that only 24 percent of Americans believed that the country’s economy was in good condition, marking a decline from the 30 percent that held the same belief last month.

According to the poll, Democrats were also found to have a generally better opinion about the state of the economy, with 41 percent saying that the economy was in good condition, while only 7 percent of Republicans held the same view. It is important to note though, that there was a decline in the figures from both parties.

In general, two-thirds of Americans disapproved of President Biden’s handling of the economy, with only 33 percent approving of his so far performance. More specifically, 61 percent of Democrats stated that they approved of Biden’s handling of the economy, while only 6 percent agreed with that view.

Biden’s approval scores in handling immigration and gun policy were even lower than the scores he received about the economy. Forty-three percent of respondents also said that they approved of the way that Biden had handled the student loans.

Following the recent bank failures earlier this year, only 11 percent of Americans expressed a “great deal” of confidence in banks and financial institutions, while 31 percent said they had “hardly any” confidence.

Other recent surveys have shown similar results, with the majority of Americans believing that the country’s economy is in poor shape. There is also a low level of confidence in economic leadership.

The poll included 1,680 adults and was conducted between May 11 and May 15. The margin of error was 3.4 percentage points.
