(PartiallyPolitics.com) – On Saturday, South Carolina GOP voters claimed according to a CBS News exit poll that they were not happy with the country’s direction and that they did not agree with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s assessment and criticisms regarding former President Donald Trump’s mental fitness to serve in the White House again.
Voters were found to believe a wide majority, 72 percent, that Trump was both physically and mentally capable of serving as President, while only 60 percent believed the same about Haley. These results came out only one hour before the polls were set to close at 7 p.m. EST.
Republican primary voters further claimed that they were dissatisfied with the overall direction of the country, with around 90 percent claiming they were dissatisfied. Out of that group around half also argued that the direction that the country had taken made them angry.
The poll also found that around 8 out of 10 voters believed that the economy was either poor or not so good. It further revealed that the Republican primary voters in the state were more conservative than those in New Hampshire, with their results more closely resembling the results in Iowa ahead of the Republican caucus.
The exit polls on Saturday also revealed that the state’s electorate is a lot more conservative now than what it had been in 2016 when Trump had won the primary election in the state.
According to a recent exit poll, over 40 percent of Republican primary voters claimed that they were “very conservative” whereas the same statement had only been made by 38 percent of responders in the 2016 primary.
