(PartiallyPolitics.com) – House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is threatening to subpoena the Biden administration to request documents that concern climate envoy John Kerry’s office and work.

Kerry serves as the special envoy for climate, which makes his role integral to the climate diplomacy efforts. In a letter on Tuesday to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Comer requested all the information relating to the envoy’s budget, list of employees, communications with third parties and any documents specifically related to Kerry’s travel.

He further threatened that if the Department fails to provide him with access to the document voluntarily, then he might need to resort to “other means, including compulsory process.” In the letter, Comer also expressed concerns about how Kerry has important responsibilities, but his position is not one that requires the confirmation of the Senate. As he wrote oftentimes his activities “skirt congressional authority, threaten foreign policy under the guise of climate advocacy, and could undermine our economic health.” Despite all of these Kerry’s office has so far refused to be transparent about all their tasks, activities, spending, and who works in the office. He further added that this information has not been provided to the Committee or the American people.

Kerry has been serving as the lead U.S. negotiator for climate issues since the start of the Biden administration and has previously attended climate summits in Glasgow, Scotland, and Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt as part of his duties.
