(PartiallyPolitics.com) – Democratic lawmakers are pushing for President Joe Biden to take a stronger stance on Iran following the recent attack by Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, against Israel on Oct. 7.

Recent reports have noted that Hamas had allegedly coordinated with Iran in preparation for the attack against Israel which included them firing thousands of rockets against the country while also launching an attack from sea and land. In retaliation to the attack, Israel launched the heaviest airstrike in its history against Gaza. They have also called for the 1.1 million Palestinians in northern Gaza to relocate as they are preparing for an inland attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel was at “war” and has cut off all supplies of medicine, fuel, electricity, and food to Gaza. In the nine days since the start of the war over 1,400 Israelis and 2,800 Palestinians have lost their lives.

In response to the attack, Biden reiterated that the U.S. would continue to support Israel and argued that the country had the right to defend itself against the terrorist group Hamas. He has also attempted to address some of the humanitarian concerns that relate to the attacks against those in Gaza, including the children and millions of people who have been called to evacuate their homes.

On Monday a bipartisan group of lawmakers sent a letter to Biden calling for him to take action in order for Iran to be held accountable for the support they provided to Hamas in the lead-up to the attack.
