(PartiallyPolitics.com) – The Trump campaign has launched its latest attack against Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis ahead of the governor’s expected announcement of his 2024 presidential bid.

On Wednesday, a spokesman for the Trump campaign argued that DeSantis and “his cronies” have been threatening state lawmakers to convince them to change their endorsement from former President Donald Trump to DeSantis.  However, DeSantis has denied these accusations.

Steven Chueng, a Trump campaign spokesperson, wrote in a statement that DeSantis and his “political cronies” have been threatening the Florida legislature with his veto power if they don’t endorse his campaign. He argued that some legislators have opposed DeSantis’ tactics and are continuing to do what is right for both Florida and the country.

DeSantis’ super PAC Never Back Down’s strategic communications director Matt Wolking in a statement to Newsmax argued that there was no evidence to back these allegations which were completely fabricated by the Trump campaign. He added that the Trump campaign was resorting to making up “fake news” in order to explain why DeSantis has received almost 200 endorsements from Iowa, New Hampshire, and Florida within only a few days.

An unnamed DeSantis political operative also spoke with Newsmax to state that Trump’s claims of having “almost universal” support in Florida are untrue and that the state unilaterally supports DeSantis. He further added that especially within the Florida Legislature support for the governor was “almost universal” because they have often worked with DeSantis and are aware of how he has managed to place Florida on the top of every metric.
