A South Carolina woman was killed Wednesday after a beach umbrella swept up in the wind impaled her in the chest, according to reports.

Tammy Perreault was visiting Garden City beach when a gust of wind swept up an umbrella that then struck her in the chest at approximately 12:40 p.m., WMBF News reported.

“A gust of wind that came through took an umbrella through the air and it just kept going and going,” Perreault’s friend, Sherry White, told the outlet. “Everyone says, ‘duck,’ and we did, but unfortunately she was in the line of fire.”

Off-duty medical professionals and several bystanders treated Perreault before transporting her to Waccamaw Emergency Room, where she was pronounced dead at 1:33 p.m., according to WMBF News.
