Recently, President Joe Biden has been more silent on the topic of potential re-election runs for 2024. He recently said that whether he would run again “remains to be seen,” but has said that despite his age he is still able to stand behind Americans now as they face a time of economic uncertainty, conflict overseas, and the pandemic.

The comments were made during a 60 Minutes interview with Scott Pelley. During the interview, Pelley reminded Biden that he had said he would run again, and asked if Biden remained certain about that decision. In response, Biden said that he fully intends to run again, but that no firm decision has been made as of yet.

This statement was made a few weeks before the 2022 midterm elections, during a time when former President Donald Trump has been hosting rallies across the country to increase the support for his Republican candidates.

At the same time, Biden is now holding back at announcing a re-election bid which could be one final attempt made by the Democratic party to gain the support of some of those who have criticized Biden over the past year.

If Biden chooses to not run for re-election then this would be a great opportunity for other Democratic hopefuls such as California Governor Gavin Newsom. Vice-President Kamala Harris, who had previously had a failed campaign in 2020 could be another option. Other top names include Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

During the interview, Pelley also said that Biden is almost 80 which is the oldest any US President has ever been.
