Senator Ted Cruz

Senate Democrats filed an ethics complaint against Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) last week regarding their objections to the certification of Joe Biden as President of the United States.

In a letter to incoming Senate Ethics Committee Chairman Chris Coons (D-DE), Democrats accuse the GOP senators of ‘lending legitimacy’ to the chaos that took place at the Capitol on January 6th and have questioned whether they or their staffers coordinated with protestors or accepted donations from any organizations that helped plan the attack.

Democrats are asking Coons to launch an investigation to “fully understand their role” in the riot and to determine whether the senators “engaged in criminal conduct or unethical or improper behavior.”

Cruz and Hawley staunchly supported President Trump’s claims of election fraud and have faced criticism from their own party for voting against Biden’s certification in Arizona and Pennsylvania.

If the investigation moves forward and either senator is found guilty of wrongdoing, the chamber could vote to expel or censure. Such moves require a two-thirds vote and a majority vote, respectively.

“Sens. Cruz and Hawley deserve a fair process and a chance to explain themselves and their role in the January 6 Capitol siege,” tweeted Senator Tina Smith (D-MN). “But unless we learn something new, based on what we’ve seen so far, I don’t believe they deserve to remain in the Senate.”

The ethics complaint was signed by Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Tina Smith (D-MN), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH). Only 15 senators have been expelled in US history, all for disloyalty to the nation. Nine members have been censured since 1811, most for accepting gifts or using campaign money for personal benefit.

In other news, state lawmakers in Arizona voted to censure Cindy McCain and former Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) for backing Biden in the election and Governor Doug Ducey (R) for implementing pandemic restrictions that violated personal freedoms.

  1. As a conservative Christian, I am beginning to see the beginnings of a Nazi genocide of such in the United States by the Democrats. If we don’t stand against them then we too will be led like sheep to the slaughter. Our nation was to be as a beacon to other countries for freedom. We can’t sit and watch all freedoms extinguished. What has happened to our news media outlets that opinions matter? Who, what, when, where and why, if known, is journalism. Censured questions by the media is no more than propaganda. Wake up America.
