Billionaire George Soros has had a long-standing history of donating to activist causes. A new report highlights how this philanthropy extends to the case of activists ambushing Senator Kyrsten Sinema in the restroom.
The Washington Free Beacon on Monday pointed out how George Soros’s Open Society Foundation was the leading donor for the activist group in Arizona. Living United for Change enjoyed a $250,000 donation from Open Society in 2017, and a $1.5 million USD donation in 2019.
Free Beacon cited the Open Society Foundations grant database as the point of proof to their claim. “To support policy advocacy led by communities of color in Arizona,” says the description line.
In it, immigrant youth recorded their confrontation of Sinema as she entered a restroom stall. All the meanwhile they were questioning the Arizona Senator over the ongoing situation in Washington. Immigration was something that was previously ruled out of being allowed in the infrastructure bill proposals currently being debated in Washington DC this week.
Sinema teaches a class at Arizona State University. In her statement responding to the video clip posted by the activists, the opening paragraph says these protesters “deceptively” enter a “locked, secure building.”
In the rest of the remarks, Kyrsten Sinema says while she appreciates and respects First Amendment right to protest, the actions by Living United for Change Arizona activists crossed a line into “unlawful activities.”
“In the 19 years I have been teaching at ASU, I have been committed to creating a safe and intellectually challenging environment for my students. Yesterday, that environment was breached. My students were unfairly and unlawful victimized. This is wholly inappropriate.”
Earlier today, President Joe Biden said situations like what Kyrsten Sinema experienced over the weekend “happens to everybody.” In the speech about raising the debt ceiling he gave moments earlier, Biden personally blamed both Senators Sinema and Manchin of Virginia for blocking the Democrat’s current agenda.
But White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki clarified that what Biden meant to stress was how inappropriate and unacceptable the behavior by the activists was.
