After a nine-day trial in Arkansas, a jury found Josh Duggar guilty of receiving and possessing child pornography. He was convicted on both counts and faces 20 years in prison and fines of $250,000 for each charge, but the judge said he will only be sentenced for one charge. Duggar’s sentencing will take place in about four months. Until then, he will be in police custody, rather than released on house arrest like he was in the months leading up to his trial.

Duggar, 33, was arrested in April and pleaded not guilty to both charges. His wife, Anna, delivered their seventh child shortly before his trial began on November 30th. Despite the severity of his charges, Anna was seen entering the courthouse each day holding her husband’s hand. She sat in the gallery during the proceedings and was present when the judge read the jury’s verdict, which was unanimous on both counts. As Duggar was led away in handcuffs, he was briefly allowed to stop in front of his wife, where the two exchanged emotional words spoken through their face masks.

Some members of Duggar’s family have released statements in the aftermath of his conviction. In a statement on their website, his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, wrote, “This entire ordeal has been very grievous. Today, God’s grace, through the love and prayers of so many, have sustained us. Our hearts and prayers are with anyone who has ever been harmed through CSAM [Child Sexual Abuse Material]. In the days ahead, we will do all we can to surround our daughter-in-law Anna and their children with love and support. As parents, we will never stop praying for Joshua, and loving him, as we do all of our children. In each of life’s circumstances, we place our trust in God. He is our source of strength and refuge. Thank you for your prayers.”

Many people were praying, and not all the prayers were for Josh’s release from the legal system. Josh’s sister and brother-in-law, Derrick and Jill Dillard, released a joint statement on their website after his guilty verdicts were read.

“Today was difficult for our family. Our hearts go out to the victims of child abuse or any kind of exploitation. We are thankful for the hard work of law enforcement, including investigators, forensic analysts, prosecutors, and all others involved who save kids and hold accountable those responsible for their abuse.

“Nobody is above the law. It applies equally to everybody, no matter your wealth, status, associations, gender, race, or any other factor. Today, the people of the Western District of Arkansas made that clear in their verdict. As a Christian, we believe we are all equal at the foot of the cross, and likewise, we are all equal under the law…After seeing all the evidence as it was presented, we believe that the jury reached a just verdict today, consistent with the truth beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Derrick was present for at least one day of Duggar’s trial. His wife, Jill, was previously named as a victim of Josh’s childhood molestations. In their statement, the Dillards also expressed their support for Anna and the children she shares with Josh, all of whom are suffering because of Josh’s actions as well.

The family gained fame on their reality show 19 Kids and Counting, which ran on TLC and was a fan favorite until it was cancelled in 2015 after news broke that Josh had molested underage girls when he was still a minor. He confessed to the accusations, but charges were never pressed because the statue of limitations had lapsed.

  1. Yet, democrats insist on having text books, in school libraries, describing man/boy sexual acts. There’s not a solid answer on anything these days. I guess we can agree that democrats are crazy and lawless.

  2. The Democratic party is made up of many child molesters, thieves, liers, and of those who Hate America for everything. Then you have those that have been Brainwashed ( Some since Birth ) by their schools and others to believe the party is goung to give them their hearts desires

  3. One thing I have actually noticed is that often there are plenty of misguided beliefs regarding the finance institutions intentions any time talking about property foreclosures. One fairy tale in particular is the fact the bank wants your house. The lending company wants your hard earned cash, not the home. They want the amount of money they lent you along with interest. Keeping away from the bank will still only draw some sort of foreclosed realization. Thanks for your post.
